Safe drinking water in Lockney

The City of Lockney water system (Texas public water system TX0770002) provides drinking water to about 1,300 people. Our water comes from city wells in the Ogallala Aquifer in Floyd County and from treated surface water bought from the Mackenzie Municipal Water Authority in Briscoe County.

How your water is kept safe

  • Disinfection: chlorine is added to kill germs, and chlorine levels are checked throughout the system.
  • Regular testing: water samples are collected on a schedule set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and tested by accredited laboratories for bacteria, lead and copper, nitrate, disinfection byproducts, minerals and other substances.
  • Yearly report: the results are compared with federal and state limits and summarized every year in the Water Quality Report above, which goes to every customer by July 1.
  • Notices: if a test result or a problem such as a main break or low pressure means the water may not be safe, the city must tell you. Urgent problems, such as the need to boil water, must be announced within 24 hours.

Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence does not necessarily mean the water poses a health risk. To learn more, call the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.

Boil water and other public notices

If there is a problem with the water, such as a boil water notice, it is posted here, shown as a red alert banner at the top of every page, and sent by text alert.

There are no current public notices about the water system.
