May 2, 2026 general election
The filing period for an application for a place on the ballot was January 14 through February 13, 2026, ending at 5:00 p.m.

Candidate qualifications
Candidates for Mayor or Council Member must:
- Be a United States citizen
- Be at least 18 years old on the first day of the term to be filled
- Be a registered voter of the City of Lockney as of the filing deadline
- Have lived continuously in Texas for 12 months and in the city for 6 months immediately before the filing deadline
- Not have been finally convicted of a felony, unless pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities
- Meet any other requirement set by law for the office
Candidate packets, including the application, are available from the City Secretary’s office the first week of January. Candidates are strongly encouraged to pick up a packet. Some forms are also on the Texas Secretary of State and Texas Ethics Commission websites, but the full packet comes from the City Secretary.
